swap or not?

i got a 94 lude with 200,000 miles.. should i swap a newer engine in it or just redo the internals?

I'm curious about this too. I have 94 si with around 170,000 on it and I've been considering swapping when the engine/transmission starts craping out.

if you are having a shop do it, just swap it.

Building an engine takes tons of money and time. Swapping (a JDM motor) is a billion times easier.

swap. H-motors (west coast) or NoyanUSA (east coast). Pick whichever is closer, as shipping isn't cheap for an engine.

I would also say a swap would be your best bet. When my h23 crapped out I looked at rebuilding, and it seemed to be a lot more expensive than a swap. Most would disagree, but I loved my h23, so that's what I put back in her. I got my engine from JDMTiger in Canada. I haven't heard a lot of feddback about them, but my experience was mostly pleasant. I live in Kentucky and they shipped it to me for 137 dollars. The shipping took a while, but it was over the holidays. Obviously if you go with an h22 it's gonna be more expensive, but I was really impressed with their prices...not only on the engine, but the shipping as well. Something to look into anyway. Good luck with it all.

I put a jdm h22a in my 93 Si 4ws when the previous owner seized up the H23. I couldnt be happier with it I ordered the engine from hmotorsonline and had a friends dad lend me the tools i needed the swap took about a week because I had to work and chase parts around. If you have someone who has done a swap before and have all the parts youll need to replace, water pump, belts and hoses, manual tensioner parts, maybe motor mounts, oil and filter, coolant, etc. then it shouldnt take more than a day or two to do yourself which saves you $1000 bucks to install it.

Well, when you say swap internals....do you mean just put OEM parts in it? If not, what are your goals for the engine if you do rebuild it?

I swapped engines in my 92 Si 4WS. The car was coming up on some major repairs. Timing belt and water pump were coming due, axles were leaking, header was rusted and leaking, as well as a few other things. After crunching the numbers, as well as the fact I had a friend help me swap it in, I could not be happier with the H22. After parting out my H23 parts, the swap cost me less than $1000. It turned out to be cheaper than replacing the parts on the H23 that were in need to replacing.
