suspension install help

Well I just got Neuspeed sports and AGX's and it's time to put these babies on. Think this may be out of my expertise (if you can even call it that) but I'm going to give it a shot. I've read the NTPOG writeup so hopefully that'll get me through but I did have a couple of questions:

1)spring compressors - some people say the pep boys one is crap, is that true? is there someplace better to rent from (e.g., sears)??

2) Pitman arm puller - was that necessary to get your rears off?

3) Bump stops - did people with sports cut their bumpstops? KYB says you can cut it up to 1/2 the original size, so based on what i've read I was going to go with that.

Other things to be careful of?

Re: suspension install help

1)spring compressors - I don't know about the pepboys ones but I used this kind.

yes they suck and they take some caress... but they work. Better than the alternative of getting a spring to the nuts. Just make sure to pick up a cheap socket to fit the nut on top and tighten equally.

2) Pitman arm puller - was that necessary to get your rears off? I don't know if it was necessary. But it sure made it easier than prying. It is only 10-15 bucks to rent so just get it and use it. You won't be sorry.

3) Bump stops - I personally believe that every lowered vehicles should have shortened bump stops. I trimmed mine by half and used the top portion. Think about it.... even if you don't hit the bump stops.... what difference is it going to make? Shortened ride height = shortened shock travel. So trim them. Just like the instructions say.

Other things to be careful about...

don't take off the control arm. I repeat. DON'T TAKE OFF THE CONTROL ARM. It is very attainable to get the struts out without removing them. Just push down on the front after you loosen everything and work it out. The rears are so easy.

I say this is a very easy mod to do yourself. Don't feel bad when you waste half a day getting it right. Many people have. I did just going over everything. Make sure to tighten everything back to torque spec so you don't lose part of your suspension and die. After a week or even a couple of days go back and check torque on all the nuts just to be sure.

One more thing I just thought of.... the lower bolt hold the front strut is more of a ***** than Roseanne sometimes. Leave the nut on it and beat it out so you can get ahold of it.

Any other questions and I'm here for ya man. Just lemme know

I have a quick couple questions. Where are the adjustable parts on the AGX shocks? i pulled one of them out and cant find the adjustable dial that the instructions talked about. Also, where are the bump stops? Are they on the shocks themselves? I couldn't find any rubber parts on there...

Andy - you're such a good girlfriend, what would I do without you.

But ya, you'll probably be getting nailed on AIM sometime with some questions while I'm trying not to nail myself in the nuts.

Broken Devil - on most prelude versions the adjustible part is at the very top of the shock. You should see some numbers at the top and you should have gotten a mini-screwdriver with you're shocks. You insert it, push down and rotate to the desired setting.

the spring comppressor is fitted to either end of the spring when opened the you turn the nuts and it pulls the spring together... when you have the spring mounted to the shock you loosen the compressor and it should come out (although the progressive rate on the front of the neuspeeds kind of made it a b!tch to get off )
