^WD40 isn't a good lubricant, it's more of a penetrant/solvent. It will dry up over time and probably won't react well to the grease that's already there. WD40 will work for the time being, but it is not a good permanent fix in my opinion.
Your best bet is to remove the sunroof panel, clean the tracks, lube the tracks with a good lithium grease, then put the sunroof panel back on.
There's a good chance the original lube is dried out and that there's a lot of dirt and gunk causing friction.
