Sunroof Leak - no, not drain pipes

Hey guys/gals,

I've got a peculiar leak on the rear/right side of my sunroof that leaks out between the dark grey plastic b-pillar and rear ceiling bezels.

I've checked rear hoses and they're all clean, to ensure, I ran a flush through them with an air compressor, and checked the drain nozels at the end of each tube.

A friend of mine says it may be the sunroof tray rusted through and allowing water through. I haven't had a chance to tear apart my interior, but is the sunroof try actually made of metal?

What else can I check...

Thanks!

I know you said you checked the hoses for clogs. When you blew the air through did you see if the air came out the other end. Or could the tube have come loose up top allowing it to leak inside?

not sure on the 4th gens, but usually theres a seperate sunroof mount bolted up to the roof,i'd take the headliner out and see if theres a problem with that hose, shouldnt be any rust in there unless bare metal was exposed

Yep - air coming out the other end of the hose like there's no tomorrow

I'll be pulling my interior apart this weekend... fun fun

Well, to fix it ur gonna have to take apart the sunroof anyways, so noo harm done. JUst strip of the headliner, and have someone pour a glass over the sunroof, maybe it will show u where it is leaking

I checked my Honda shop manual and the actual sunroof piece does seem to be made of metal. In the "Troubleshooting" section it has 4 probable causes for a water leak:
1. Clogged drain tube- already ruled out
2. Gap between sunroof seal and roof panel
3. Defective or improperly sealed sunroof seal
4. Gap between drain seal and roof panel

The only thing I see in the right rear area of the sunroof is a junction of the rear seal holder and the right side seal holder- maybe there's some gap between those two pieces allowing water through...

There is a diagram which is a "layered" view of the sunroof and all its components, and other diagrams specific to "Seal repair/Installation" and various adjustment diagrams. If you want me to scan it email me at bionickris13@yahoo.com and I'll get it to you.

Thanks BionicKris - I've got the documents already though...

Headliners are off, and I've noticed the leak, but still cannot confirm where exactly it is coming from. I will need to remove the sunroof frame next.

i've never taken apart a 4th gen,but i think you can just take the sunroof glass out without taking the whole sunroof frame unit off, look on both sides and there might be some torx bolts holding it in,also you can try some uv dye for ac systems or something like that that will show up pretty obviously

I've removed the sunroof on previous occasions, but the fram extends past the actual area of the roof itself, it's hard to scope it out without removing... I'll probably get working on this on the weekend. It hasn't been raining lately luckily!

Woohoo I found the leak! The sunroof frame had a section that is spot welded on to a frame-holer that bolts into the roof. This small spot weld gradually gave way and rusted through a tiny hole.

I fixed it with some sealant, should be ok now.

Anyone want pics?
