Sulphur smell

What would cause this, an exhaust leak?? Not a very powerful smell but a subtle odor that I smell particularly when I'm warming the car up. My cat is only a couple months old so that shouldn't be a probelm.

Actually, i think that the smell is coming from your cat...new cats usually have a smell to them...thats how mine was..

Your cat could theorhetically have gone bad again, if you're running really rich.

Naw, coolant is a sickly sweet smell - I remember from when I had the typical radiator leak.

Ok, so "could" an exhaust leak smell like that or would it have to be the cat? Now that I think about it I guess I don't know what exhaust fumes smell like before they go through a cat *shrug*

Ryan - is there an easy way to tell if I am running rich?? If I was running rich what is the typical problem - bad O2 sensor? fpr?

^ Um, not that I can think of.

A bad 02 sensor could cause a rich condition. I'm sure there's others here who are more knowledgeable than I.

hmm, mine has never smelled like sulfer, and without a cat it still dont smell like sulfer. When your running rich it will smell like gas, really simple.

What i was saying, when you have a small coolant leak, and it burns off it smells different. I know its usually a sweet smell.

Coolant has a sweet smell, but sulfur smells like fart or as some have reported "rotten eggs"...thats just the smell of the breaking in of the cat...ride with it for a month and see if it still smells...

Haha, this is funny! It's not a "new" cat!!! I said it's several months old now and yes it smelt bad originally but that smell went away a long time ago!!! Now a different smell is there.

omg, lol, before I let poor subx repeat himself for the third time, he's not suggesting a coolant leak, but coolant being burned (for instance, if you had a bad head gasket).
