stuttering starts and warm up

when i start my car, i turn the key and you can hear the engine trying to start. the part where its trying to start varies in time sometimes. sometimes its like 2-3 seconds long, sometimes it will be less then 1 second. then after it starts, the rpm goes up to like 2.5-3, then drops back down to around 2 to 2.5 rpm and idles there until the car gets warmed up for a while, then it drops to under 1k. is something wrong or does everyones start time vary like mine?

another question is, whats a good rule of thumb to use when driving your car when the engine is cold? what i mean is, i warm up my car when the temp goes to the middle. does that mean i can rev the engine high and its ok. like i can shift at 3-3.5k rpm if i want right away, or should i rev it low and let it completely warm up? im just not sure when the engine is completely ready for some high reving and accelerating after a warm up of the car.

well, just from my experience, i usually let it warm up to 1 bar then i drive her, but i take it easy on her, the only reason i would recommend taking it easy on your car when you first start driving it is for two reasons:

1) Your engine warmed up without any stress to it, and since your oil can be cooler than other fluids and i don't want to risk anything happening to her

2) Ya never know if something else has broken such as a motor mount, my old Grand Am's engine warmed up fine, but then when i started driving it the vibrations were killer, the motor mounts were both shot

so i guess i'm just saying that it's safer to error on the side on caution

well, i always run it smooth in the beginning anyway. im very paranoid and carefull. after a little while of driving, i gradually increase the rpms i shift at. i start at 2.5 for a while, then go to 3, then 3.5. then on occasion 4. i reach the highway kinda quickly so i would just like to know if theres a good way to know its safe to rev and push the engine. i just wish i would know when its ok to push her and how long to wait and stuff like that.

I had a similar problem a while back - it ended up being because of bad fuel, I never went back to the place I filled up again....
