Stupid Tire Questions

Sorry guys but I dont know much about tires and wheels. I have right now some 17in giovanna corsicas. The tires that are on there now are 205/40zr17 but I am getting all new tires next year (looking to spend about 350-400 dollars on 4 new ones) so I am wondering can you put a 215/40 on these rims (I see most of you guys have them) and then what would be the best preformance tires for that price (My lude is stored in the winter) Thanks you guys, you always have good answers!

You should check the width of your rims. It should say somewhere on the rim, but you'd have to take it off the car to find it. Or you could look it up. I'm sure you could put 215's on there or even 225's, but keep in mind that the profile "40" is the aspect ratio, and it changes with the tread width. If you went with much wider tires, you would probably want a sidewall that is 35 percent of the treadwidth, so the diameter isn't too big.
Here's your site: www.tirerack.com. Search for tires by size and performance category, and when you've found them, click on their SPECS. The outer diameter for each size is listed, as well as the range of rim width they're able to fit.

I don't really care, but try not to double post the same thread...some people get really touchy about it. Just some words to the wise. Also, try the search function, as you can find a TON of useful info on brands, sizes, and performances of different tires.

Good luck,
J

posting the same question in 2 forums is against the po.com law.

You shouldn't have any trouble putting on the 215/40's. Tirerack is a good resource for finding a tire that suits your needs. You could also search and see what different people like and dislike.
