stupid tire jack cover.

i didnt think this was even worth posting for the longest time but might aswell...

in the trunk where the spare tire jack is located there is a nice little cover that makes it blend in with the rest of the trunk...that is when it works.

theres a cheesy little clip/turney thing that is suppostue keep it secure but i for the life of me cant seem to keep it on there longer than a day.

illl jam it in place tight and turn the thing up so its holding it in place and shut my trunk and be on my way....drive around and then the next day ill go to my trunk to find it laying on the floor. why wont it stay on?! ill probably end up tossing it anyways just cause its pointless but if theres a way to make it stay ill keep it.

Haha! I used to have the same problem. It is probably the worst-designed part on the entire car.

I don't really have a fix for you. I just fiddled with it until I found a position where it wasn't prone to falling off all the time. Now it stays in place, and I don't have a problem any more.

I did, however, start a thread about this at the time when my cover was always falling off.

Ok, there are a few points that have to meet/overlap, whatever...

First point is here on the cover...

... that needs to fit OVER this ridge on the body:

next is this part on the cover (ignore my thumb, look at my finger)

that goes inside, or BEHIND the trunk liner here:

... like this

here's the first part going over that ridge:

outer ridge on the rear of the cover (closest to tail light) ...

... which fits inside this ridge here in the trunk liner:

bottom edge here on the cover

goes above this ridge on the liner .. hehe, peace man

... and that's it, I forgot to take a pic of it on, but trust me, it went in. It's not glued-on firm in place, but it'll hold. Hope this helps hehe, I guess I felt like doing a walkthrough, regardless of how lame it is.

is yours different? You can't really tighten that knob, it just moves a little latch/lever

Hehe...I just removed the cover, the spare, and the tool kit, and had a custom-made fiberglass enclosure made, which used to hold 2 Boston Acoustics Pro Series 10s...'til my nice MTX amp fried them at low volume. Yay.
