Stupid sunroof getting stuck!

Grr, almost every time I open my sunroof, it gets caught up on the rear portion of the opening. I have to push it up a bit for it to open!

I already took the panel off tonight (and added some soundproofing to the top) to try to fix the problem, but even after adjusting it further forward, it still gets stuck!

I have a feeling part of the mechanism is enough out of alignment so that adjusting it through the mount screws isn't enough to get it right.

Anyone else have this problem?

I cleaned the tracks and relubed them. The weather stripping is whats sticking to the rear of the frame though

Is the rear end of the sunroof panel raising all the way when it first opens? Try just giving the switch a couple of quick taps so the rear end is raised, just before it starts to move back- maybe it isn't raising high enough at that point and hitting by the time it gets near the "full open" position.

I was just looking through my shop manual and there is a diagram for adjusting the panel height by loosening the bracket mounting nuts (2 brackets/side) and installing shims to raise it. I can scan it and get it to you if you want it. Email or PM me.

Well it hasn't been doing it lately for whatever reason (maybe the grease completely took hold?), but I have been getting tons of wind noise since I movied it slightly forward.

When I took it apart, I moved the shims around to make the sunroof level with the roofline - the back was a little too high up on one corner. Regardless, it was doing it with the shims where they originally were. Visually, the track mechanisms aren't perfectly aligned with each other, so I think thats whats causing the problem.

BionicKris,

Thanks for the help and offer, but I've got a Helms already

If it gets stuck again, I'll try to get a picture

i had the sticking issue about a year ago, and for a long time. It wouldnt even open when i used the manual opener thats over the back seats... I ended up using alot of WD-40 and even some PB Blaster on the tracks (in the spots i could get to best with it still closed) and it finally broke lose. I thought i had something stuck in the tracks for a while... but i think it just needed a real good lube job.

Yea mine has been working fine since after my last post. I think it just needed a good lube job. Now I have to take it apart and adjust it a bit towards the back because I am getting excessive wind noise and there is a small gap when its closed
