Strange noise when driving, like compressed air

When i am driving normally, I hear a starnge sound at random times. It sounds like a quick burst of compressed air escaping. Like phhhsssstt. then stops in less than a second or two. What is this? and is it a problem?
P.S. I dont have a turbo

my friend had that problem, i think it was the firewall under the driver's steering...air getting through there...

Next time it does that....check to see if maybe there is a truck around you..........they make that noise with they're airbreaks that sounds just like that.
I know it's stupid but I've seen worse.

does it occur when you go over bumps? It could be that noise shocks make when compressing/decompressing
