Stock shocks and lowering springs

I'm looking at lowering my car now, got some cash going, well a little bit anyway.

When replacing the springs do you need to replace the shocks? I'll be doing the shocks later when I have more cash but for now I need the car to be lower.

A friend has a Celica and Toyota have said that the stock shocks should be fine if dropping 1.5" to 2"

Or do I go with the coilover option? I don't know the advantages and disadvantages of coilovers.

I appreciate that Koni shocks will be better but I can buy them in 6months time when I have some cash and after my H22

Has anyone done this?

Ta

you will need to replace them because the stiff springs will rebound harder and you need the dampening of stronger shocks to keep it under control

If you do a mild drop you can get away with stock shocks for a while. One of the problems is that the shocks are usally already 6-10 years old.

My shocks had 55,000 miles on them when I installed my Neuspeed Sport springs. They now have 83,000 miles on them and I haven't had a single problem yet. The ride is prefectly fine.

Don't do it, if your stock shocks are fine now they will just wear out quicker. I wish I would have waited, my stock shocks are still okay, but I'm going to have to do the job all over now that I want some aftermarket shocks. Just my 2 cents.

I say if you got the money and want a drop now, go ahead and do it. But, if you're doing the job yourself, wait til you get shocks too. Trust me. You will not want to do this job again after you did it once. my $.02
