Stock H22 retainers in Skunk2 build?

Hi

I have a question..
Im about to rebuild my h22 engine with mahle pistons and skunk2 pro2's, I bought the B16 pro springs with the h22 spring base kit.
But I was wondering if it was possible to reuse the stock retainers?

I already bought the Titanium ones from Skunk2 though. But I'd rather use some steel retainers instead of if it even was an option

Thanks

Rasmus

You can use stock retainers but won't be able to rev it as high. Compare to the titanium ones. Also titanium ones should be checked and replaced after about 10 or 20,000 miles.

Thanks for your reply mate
Another question, why wouldn't I be able to rev it as high? What is the big difference

I think we are talking about 1000 rpm more than stock max? Not sure where my setup will deliver the power

The titanium retainers are raised which provide the extra lift. Stock ones are flat.

You can call skunk and speak with them. They are very helpful.

I spoke with them about stock came and retainers with their springs.

Since you are using the pro2s I would recommend calling them.
Then post your results.

as promised this is what they wrote to me, I asked if I could use stock retainers in my build:

Thank you for contacting the Helpdesk at Skunk2 Racing. As far as your question on the steel retainers, they are a bit heavier than the titanium ones and could cause a clearance problem, In most cases the problem with the titanium ones breaking are due to poor maintance to the car. Checking your valve lash is always a plus when building a car. So to answer your question, Yes you could, but the peformace aspect may not carry the same results.

So Im going with the Ti retainers Already got em with the cams and mahles looks awesome
