Stock car alarm frustration

Hey all, i have what i think is a stock car alarm for my recently purchased 1994 SI prelude and am finding it to be a real pain in the butt.

When i disarm the alarm to get in to the car and enter through the driver side door it only gives me about 10 seconds to start the engine before the alarm arms itself again (meaning the alarm will go off if i try to start the car after 10 seconds has passed).

Like i said i am new to this car. Is this normal? And is there anything i am missing to make it stop doing this? (like pushing the remote a certain number of times or holding the button down?)

yeah that's normal for the "auto" setting of the stock alarm. you can switch the settings on the alarm's control unit.

and all you have to do is put the key in the ignition within the time frame, you don't have to start it iirc.

i had the stock alarm on my old Si, and it was strange at first but i grew to like it.

I can turn the electrics on without having it re-arm itself but that is still pretty annoying. How would i go about altering the settings on the alarm's control unit? i'm not sure what to look for.

the control unit should be under the driver's seat. looks like this:

Accessories Installation Instructions

you prob wanna switch it to "manual" mode.
