Still problems, help with hesitation/idle prob...

Yes, I did my search, but no clear info on wtf is going on.

Ok here is the deal. Some of you know that I have been throwing a CEL 43 for a while (Fuel Supply/O2 heater problem). I ended up changing my fuel filter, FPR, fuel pump, plugs, wires, and even swapped out distributor (due to idle prob.)

I just swapped out the fuel pump today, and I haven't been throwing a code yet. Feels a little stronger.

But now I am dealing with the hesitation at part throttle around 3k to 4k. When I give it full throttle it appears to be fine.

I do have an exhaust leak at the flex pipe (pretty bad), and I was wondering would that trip the O2 sensor and cause it to hesitate (that's if the O2 sensor is fine)?

I am also having idle problems, it randomly hops around from 850, to 650rpm.

I have no clue wtf is going on, if the CEL 43 pops up again, it's gotta be the O2 sensor.

Any input would be great. The old threads seem to have misc/random info.

Thanks in advance,

charlie

Come to think of it the O2 sensor bung hole comes BEFORE the flex pipe correct? So that getting the leak fixed wouldn't fix the hesitation/O2 reading?

Could it be the O2 (no CEL though )

When I had hesitation problems, I took it to a mechanic who ran a diagnostic test. What was the problem? It was the O2 sensor. I thought it was the knock sensor since a lot of the 5th gen guys have problems with theirs, but it was the O2 sensor which is also a common problem.

IIRC, the O2 sensor bung hole does come before the flex pipe. If the leak is after the O2, then your O2 sensor readings wouldn't change.

Lemme know

Yes it did. At the time I didn't know how to check for which CEL it was, but I'm assuming it had to do with the O2/Fuel supply. You pretty much ruled out what I had thought was wrong as well, and the O2 sensor seems like the most likely culprit. Can you take it to a mechanic or are you just going to replace the O2 sensor yourself and see what happens?

if the hole in your flex pipe is substantial enough then there could be some backpressure building up in the pipe as gas tries to escape through the leak, that could account for you hesistation.

Yes. My idle was extremely erratic and jumped all over the place.

Whenever you guys replace your O2, PLEASE be sure to post your results on this thread so we all will know the outcome. Too often we have threads like this with no outcomes posted and then we are all left still wondering. I know I would appreciate it since I'm having the same problem and can't work on the car for awhile, as well as, people in the future. Thanks.

Keith

Did you replace with a factory O2 sensor or Bosch or some other aftermarket brand. I had this same problem. I put a Bosch in and it threw a code 43 a few weeks later. Put in a Ntk (ngk brand) and no more problems. The cheaper 02 sensors just don't work well with our four wire setups. Get a better sensor and it'll almost for sure go away.

Yeah, it was off ebay, without the connector....

Looks like I will have to put money in it again.
