Steering wheel play..... why?

I own a '92 Prelude... got my steering rack changed out about 8 months ago. Not sure if this is related but my steering wheel has some play to it... about an inch to each side. Whether the lude is standing still or dirving .. I'm able to giggle the wheel side to side FREELY with out make the wheels move. I told my father-in-law about it (cuz he's pretty handy when it comes to cars) & he said his 2000 dodge truck is doing the same ... but he said his truck has a tappered bolt on the top of the steering box that will tighten the steering wheel.... not sure if our ludes have this..... I don't think we do tho. I haven't had a chance to read the helm, but I was just wanting to see if anyone else had this prob & if you were able to fix it & How you fixed it... so please lmk what you think... thanks!

& it kinda sucks cuz I'll be on the freeway & I wanna change lanes & of course at that rate of speed to don't wanna just shoot over.... So you move the steering wheel over slowly & just alil.... well since my steering wheel has been doing this, it throws me off when ever I change lanes like this... It's like I move the steering wheel & I feel I shoudl already be completely in that lane.. but I', only half way there.. cuz of that damn inch of free play my steering wheel has.

You said your steering rack was replaced? Who replaced it? It might not be properly installed? Did you check your tie rods? My steering wheel had some play in it, but that was because of my tie rods. I replaced it and it's fine now. Your situation sounds a little extreme.

My mechanic was the one who replaced it.... he only works on Hondas & Acruas cuz he use to work for honda for about 15yrs... I trust his work... so I seriously doubt it's that. I think it might be a tie rod like you mentioned. I'll take a look at it tonight if I can't find the prob... I'll swing by his shop.
