Steering issue

OK, so i asked this question on PZ already but im not getting too much help because its kinda hard to diagnose .

Steering problem...PLZ HELP !!! - Honda Prelude Forum

Ok so im having this issue, when i drive over bumps/cracks/potholes my steering wheel turns to the left but this only happens when i run something over on the left side. also when i jack my car up to look, turn the wheel it makes a noise like the tie rod is loose. it seems like there is a little play in it. also my steering boot or whatever its called is ripped.

can anyone help me diagnose this ?

you might need your axle rebuilt and a new boot put on and packed with grease.

whenever a steering/suspension parts have play they are no good, they nolonger meet factory specs... plus whenever the steering wheel turns over bumps(expect huge bumps/potholes) means something is loose.

Just replace the steering rack boot if its just torn(if you see ps fluid you need to replace the rack because the seal inside leaking

& replace your outter or inner tie rod that has the play

hope this helps you out

plus when you got it jacked up and checking for play your moving the tire, your shaking it left to right?

drypark method is also better way if you got access to a flat rack lift aka alignment rack at a shop. have one person shaking the steering wheel & the other person on the ground checking for play

I still haven't solved my problem due to money issues and the fact that I have to replace my timing belt and what not. Ok so just to clear things up there is a slight clicking noise. I think I might just start replacing stuff. I might just start with bushings and what not. Would it be better to get it from Honda ? Buy poly's ? Or just grab some from any auto parts store ?

come on son, thats how cars end up like ****. you have to fix the more important things first. it sounds like your axle is leaking. it also sounds like your broke phi broke (you aint got it) so you need to jack up your car and see what rubber boots are broken and what grease and oil is coming out of.

go buy/borrow some jack stands and a jack, time to get dirty. download a free ass service manual and start reading. use the search button. take pics.

Well the first thing is that it is not my axles. That I'm sure of. All my boots are just fine no grease leaking or anything. Second I'm more concerned about my timing belt because it's got 60k+ miles on it and the car was sitting for 4 years before I got my hands on it.

It really does man. Atleast I have a starting poin. I havebeen puzzled on where to start. I'm an engine guy I know more about engines and how to work on them. I'm not a suspension/braking/steering person so I know only some things like how to replace stuff but diagnosing it isn't my strong suit
