Question, was this during the daytime? In the heat?
When my main relay was bad, it would do that sometimes, but wouldn't drive. It would just die. If it's during the day, try it at night when it's colder. If it is fine at night, but not day, you need to take your main relay out and re-solder the contacts.
The reason being...
When it's hot, the circuit board expands. It's not noticeable, but it's enough at it's scale that it won't work correctly. At night, when it's cooler, the board contracts, and the contacts will work....usually.
