starting problems!!!!!!

Big Problems!!!
When I go to start my car, the car turns over but when i let go of the key, it dies on me. What I mean specifically is when I turn the key to start to turns over and runs but when I let go of the key and let it go back to on, it dies on me. I had to drive about two miles just holding the key on start. Anyone have this problem or know anything??????

Hmmm sounds like the electrical side of the ignition switch needs replacement.

edit: hehe we responded at the same time. But yea...check your ignition switch and get it replaced.

Hey.. It just happened to me now. Luckily, i could drive back home safely (with a shift stick). Don't ask me how, but i did it for 8 miles locally. Anyway, if it's really an ignition switch problem...can u please tell me which part it is from the diagram. ?

It's in front of #6 (the circle thingy with two harness connector). But that's a rip off though because Majestic honda doesn't sell that individual part. Check your local junkyard.

They usually call it: ignition switch - electrical side

What year is your car??? I know there is a recall on the ignition on certain years (not sure what years though sorry) My mom's Odyssey had the same problem... if she held it in the "start" position it would run fine.. they just put in a new ignition switch. Hope that helps.

I am having a problem with my ignition also. My problem isn't as bad but something is sure wrong. When I go to turn the key, the engine won't even turn over. It just sits there. Then after 2-3 turns it will finally begin to start. Anyone know what my problem might be?

Yeah.. that's a rip off. i won't buy the whole set for $309. Just to get an ignition switch. Someone also mentioned about Autozone. I might check both places out. Hope it's not gonna be $100 up.

My car is 94 vtec. I heard about that too. My friend told me he had 97+ something lude, and he had to go for a recall. I'll go ask around if they have it with my year.

I work at autozone, and it shouldn't be more than 50 bucks 75 at the most.

My car does the same thing L-U-R-C-H. Well at least it did like a month ago. I was just ready to start replacing stuff to find the problem and it quit doing it..?? I would check your solenoid and starter. First check for loose wires on both of them before you spend the money to replace them... then go from there. Good Luck.

As for the taking the car a few tries before it starts, I think that may be the bad fuel injector relay that's common in Hondas from the early 90s. This site explains how to fix it yourself, or you could just try picking up a new relay.
