Starting issues on '94 Si

Hey guys, been a long time since I've posted on here so I hope the Lude family has been doin' good! Anyways, here's my story...

-Bought an automatic '94 Lude two and a half years ago at 115,000 miles

-Now has 145,000 miles

-Ever since I've owned the car, I never know how long it'll take for my car to start.

-I turn the key to the stage 2 position (where the dash lights and fuel pump turn on) and leave it there for about 5 seconds before I start cranking.

-Then, I turn the key to the stage 3 position (cranking the car to turn it on) and the car will ALWAYS start, but I never know how quickly it'll start after I start cranking. Sometimes it immediately starts, other times I have to crank for 2 seconds and then it'll start. However, the important note here is that the car would ALWAYS start no matter how long I was cranking (anywhere from 0 - 2 seconds).

-So today, it didn't want to start for me. I was cranking it for 5 seconds and it wouldn't start. I then tried cranking it again for 5 seconds and it just wouldn't start.

-So, I let it sit for 20 minutes and then I went back out there to try and start the car again and it started up just fine. I decided to let it run for a few minutes and turned it off.

-So, an hour later I go back out again to see what would happen. This time, I started cranking and it started pretty quickly but immediately died on me and went right back to the cranking noise because I was still holding the key down in the cranking position when it first started.

-So, lastly, I came back out there later that night to see what would happen and it started right up and stayed running.

Kinda weird if you ask me. I want to say it's a fuel related problem, especially since it's had starting inconsistencies like this for the last 30,000 miles (granted, it has always started for me though). I've also been reading that maybe it has to do with the fuel pump relay or main relay? I dunno if today whatever the problem was finally decided to just about completely go out or what. Oh, and I've had the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor replaced many miles ago so it's not that. Anyways, any ideas guys?

sounds like the main relay problem to me. Mine does that once in a while too, I'm too lazy to swap out the relay.

mine seem to do it more often when i start and stop the car repeatedly.
