Can anyone walk me through them so i can better understand it. I'm right down to the last part of getting my project car started. I just want to know the basics from fuel tank to to filter to igniting. here is what i've done so far.
I've cleaned the fuel tank
Changed the fuel filter
made sure i got the hoses flushed pumping clean gas (after it runs threw the fuel filter)
Changed the spark plug
checked the distrbuter
and checked the spark plug wires
everything listed above checks out great. keep in mind before i got a hold of the car, it had been sitting for 6 years!
I think all i need to do is clean the combustion chamber. i'm not sure exactly if thats what its called. But it's the part where the spark plugs ignite the fuel i believe. everytime i spray some starter fluid in there it sound like it's about to start, even lets some exhaust out but every time after the first turn of the key, nothing but the sound of my starter.
so that all being said. anything i might be missing?? any tips on cleaning the combustion chamber without having to take it all apart? please help!
Are you getting spark? Didn't quite understand the fuel bit - are you getting fuel to the injector rail?
Also, no need for starter fluid. If its not getting gas, it won't run longer than it takes to burn up the fluid thats in the cylinder. If its not getting spark, you might end up flooding the cylinders if you use too much.
thanks, actually we figurde out it was the valves that needed to be adjusted. since whoever out on the new head didn't bother to even try because it was a mess. but once we adjusted them correctly it fired right up. now i need to figure out why it won't stay running. and find the bolts to my exhaust header!
When i cleaned the tank i kinda cheated. I found the drain plug in the fuel tank, found just behind the rear driver side tire. drained the fuel that was in there. added about a gallon of good fuel. then rocked the whole car to get the fuel to move around a bit. after that i drained the rest of that. keep in mind, in order to drain as much as possible, i jacked the opposite side of the car so all the fuel came out. then i put about 5 gallons of 91 octane fuel in with some heet fuel treatment. changed the fuel filter. then took the hose running off of the fuel filter and detached it so i can turn the key over (not to crank it) but just so the fuel is pumped threw the lines. you may have to do this several times. until you smell the good gas coming threw. when your done just hook everything back up and your clean!
i know it sounds like allot but the hardest part is waiting for whatever fuel you have in the tank to drain completely. and then figuring out what to do with that fuel. anyway, most people take the whole tank off and clean it real good with some kind of liquid. i'm sure you can find some of the threads on that. i was looking for tips before i decided to do it the way i did.
well, good luck!

thanks. i might go that route, seems easy enough. It's actually for my motorcycle - so its easy to get the tank off All of the cleaners i have found seem like a pain to dispose of, so i'll try this way
good luck with your car
