starter problem

last night i was at this small drag strip and after my first run i heard this nasssty sound coming from around my transmission. turns out something was wrong with my starter and it sounded like it was always trying to engage when the engine was already running. so i turned the car off....but the starter didn't stop, i run to the front and disconnect the battery. whenever i tried to reconnect the battery, the starter would start with no key in the ignition and i ended up melting part of the terminal. so we got a wrench, connected the battery, and smacked the damn starter till it stopped which it did. i tried starting it again and it wouldn't stop trying to start untill we hit it some more. now it's stopped trying to engage all the time but i'm worried it might happen again. it seems like it's probably the solenoid but i'm not too sure. If you guys have any experience or suggestions with this PLEASE let me know. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like it's definatly the solenoid or the wire that goes betwen the starter housing to the solenoid.

I'm having the same problem... it happened yesterday at night and today in the morning...

i do the same as DanYo, removed the battery terminals and hit it and then started it and starts fine...

i'm worried if it will happen again...
and if there any solution to that, rather than buying a new one?

Not to mention, if theres something that bad going wrong with it, what else could be wrong with it? Its better to just chuck it and get a new one than fix it and hope nothing else goes wrong with it.

the problem could be in the ignition switch?

buy a new starter then check for grounded or peeled off wire...
if that dont work the ignition switch will be the last to inspect..

thanks for all the help...

still havnt change anything and it have stopped.. everything working right, except for something
but i'm still worried if that will hapend again

the other thing that im having is that the starter is draining a lot of battery b4 getting it started... almost all the gauges get very dim b4 it starts and sometimes it will erase (reset) the clock memory

that would say i need a new starter definitely?

i dont know where to find oem one... but i found this one
Shop 1A Auto® for Honda Prelude Starter for 2.3L for Manual transmission 1992-95 for your Prelude
also looked in ebay and there are but for automatic trans..
