starter going out???

hey everybody...

Ok I have read alot of threads and came down to some of the faults... I have a 92 prelude si with a jdm h22a... I removed the cruise ctrl, pwr steering, and egr and just relocated the batt. For awhile (started like 4 months ago) the car would take a couple of turns to final turn the car over at differant points of time. Today was the worst. I tried turning the engine over to start but nothing happens (the engine won't even turn over). It can't be the batt. because all the wires are secure and all grounds are secure . Also my tach is going crazy, it would go to like 2,000 rpms and just drop and stay at 0 then rise up to what ever rpm...

EDIT: I have checked everything from the grounds, replaced main relay, and looked for blown fuses and frayed or cracked wires and still nothing. I just replaced my crappy leaky radiator that sprayed coolant on my alternator, could my alternator be teh problem???

Could be the ignition switch, one of the clutch pedal safety switches is broken, OR one of the little tabs on the clutch pedal that rests against the switches broke / fell off.

Also, I assume that since you removed your EGR, you used some kind of block off plate on the area where it mounts on the intake manifold. If so, why not just mount your EGR on it and plug it in to get rid of your CEL?

Yea I checked the clutch pedal tabs and it is still connected... I never blocked off the egr... but theres ways to stop the cel... where exactly is the clutch safety switch?

Oh you said you blocked off the EGR, I thought you removed it as well. If it is plugged in, you won't trigger a CEL, unless you switched over to OBD2

As for the switches, just look at the pins that the little tabs on the pedal contact. There's 2 of them, one at the top of the pedal travel and one at the end.

I meant I removed the solenoid for the egr... but neways yea imma check that later... I really think it might be my ignition switch... I removed the steering column bottom cover and looked at the ignition switch and really couldn't tell if anything was wrong... so imma get a new switch... basically when I turn the key all the way to on, nothing happens so I think this is the prob.

i know the starter takes 12vdc for the relay to open... I checked the voltage and theres 11.65 vdc getting through... I didn't know if the +or- .5vdc applied for this... will the relay in the started not open if there is 11.65 vdc applied???
