SRS airbags deployed - how to repair?

Unfornatelly, I had an accident with my '95 4G, and both the airbags deployed :-(

Now I want to repair them - what exactly do I need to change?

Only the airbag sets, like here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=11175

Or even the "electronic module", like here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=7910726396

In other words, are just the airbags destroyed or even anything more?

Thank you for your help,
Petr

I believe in the older airbag setups, you can just replace the airbags after unplugging the airbag control module. but in some cases the airbag impact sensor is damaged... go get a helms and test the modules and make sure the airbags wont go off as soon as you plug in the new ones lol

that sucks though, I don't see any blood so hopefully it didn't hit you too hard
hope your ok

Thanks, I'm OK, I even didn't "touch" the airbags - there was no need to deploy.

So the impact sensor is in the module? There is one module for both the airbags or each airbag has it's own module?

BTW if I will be not able to repair/replace them, how to stop the SRS light on the dashboard? Just unplug some fuse?

The airbags need to be replaced. The sensor is in the control unit. I do not believe it has to be replaced. To turn off the lights you have to "reset" the SRS computer. This is NOT done when you reset the ECU. There is a two-pin diagnostic connector that has to be shorted and you have to go through a series of shorting/unshorting/turning the key on to reset it.

I unfortunately don't have this info for the 4g. I know prelude2005 got this for his car- you may PM him.

I will move this to the 4g section since this is 4g-specific (4g/5g systems are mildly different).

To answer your question the only way to kill that SRS light is to go under the dash and pull it. Even though I thought by pulling the actual fuse near the driver foot well would of done the trick it didn't. Thinking about it now I see why it wouldn't.

Get a quote on the airbag reinstall and PM some price ranges. I'll sale you my steering wheel with the airbag undeployed that I pulled off mine in favor of a MOMO wheel for cheaper then it would be to have yours reinstalled.

No, if you are referring to the light the computer will not function if it thinks the airbags are still blown- it won't try to fire them again. In that case you are wasting your money on new airbags.

You need the factory manual for the reset procedure. It can be done with a paperclip like so many other things. You go through a sequence to reset it and it should be fine, assuming it was not damaged in the impact.

Thank you boys for your help.

Now, 2 days after the accident, I'm starting to realize that my baby could be unrepairable, totaled. Both the front wheels are pushed to the back a bit . What do you think?

Rear left wheel is also pushed a little and I'm worried about the 4WS

Take it to a frame shop, and have them tell you for sure what is bent and what isn't. That's the only way to tell if it's totalled or not. It's really hard to say just by looking at pics. Good luck

True. I'm gonna transport my lude to the shop today, so I will see. I can get some aftermarket body parts for cheap - hood, both front fenders, bumper and the bulkhead (or how you call it - headlights, bumper etc. sits in/on it).

for a car that age, i know over here the insurance company would most likely total the car. You could just buy it back and have a salvaged tittle like so many other people do. That is if the car is worth repairing. As for the air bags, they are not that hard to install, u will need a special tool tho, its like a star bit or some thing like that, but as for the sensor, it needs to be replaced or reset like mentioned above, most likely replaced, also there is a sensor in the front of the car that needs to be replaced from what i remember. If you do decide to buy the car back because the insurance totaled the car, you could jus leave the air bags out, take out the light behind the cluster, get a aftermarket steering wheel and pretend it never happened.

Is there really any sensor in the front of the car? I didn't find any in my Helms, I found only the control unit, that should contain all the sensors (?)
