spun 3 main bearings this weekend!

I was racing my friend last saturday night coming back from a local car meet. I was in 3rd gear at about 6500 rpm's when my car mysteriousely hit some kind of rev limiter. I let off and shifted into 4th and it felt like a complete dog. I put it in neutral and the oil pressure light came on. I pulled over and turned it off. Didnt see any oil anywhere so i started it up and heard a very bad rattle in the lower end. Something horrible had happened.

I got it to my shop and took it all apart. Aside from the massive amount of metal in the oil pan three of the five main bearings had spun and scored up the crank shaft and carrier.

The decision I need to make is whether to fix this problem...
get my crank shaft turned and buy oversized bearings

Or, buy a whole new H22 to put in that piece until i get enough money to completely rebuild the H23/22 for a turbo and go all out?

Im gonna have to take a loan out anyways, my biggest problem is the time it would take to build this engine compared to just buying an engine ready to go

Any input would be great.

Also let me know where you all have recently bought engines for fairly cheap and are very satisfied with the outcome.

Thanks
Steven

Spun bearings on an H23 VTEC? Ha surprise surprise...

I would say your block is pretty much junk, and seriously I would bother with it.

I have an H22a longblock if you're interested it's from a 98 Base it has 70,000 miles, maybe burns a quart every 3,000 miles like most h22as. Other than that it's all good, the head has been redone with OEM parts valve job and ported, and the t-belt and pump were done at 60,000. I can include type-s cams for more $$$ if you want. It will be out of the car in a week or 2 just use your OBDI distributor

We're about 12 hours away from you.

you can always buy the f22b dohc engine.. it;s the lil brother of the h23.. drops right in from what i hear

i'm re-building my engine right now and i must tell you.. the cost of the re-build is getting higher by the minute.. i just found out that i need to line bore my cam caps and bore out my block.. metal shavings mixed with oil doesn't mix good...

so don't bother with the re-build.. it'll cost you a lot more then the h22 itself

but on the other hand f22b goes for about 550 plus shipping from hmotorsonline

just a thought

=)

damn

sorry to hear that. I'm sure you could pick up a H23 bottom end somewhere for a decent price. DO you have another car to use for now?

i have an old ford pick up, but its on its way out.

I know the cost of a rebuild for the H23/22 would be pretty high, but i would do it very slowly.
Or i could sell all my parts (its got basically a new head)
and just keep the H22 i get.

I am interested in your H22 Satan_SRV, let me know how much you want for it.
