Spoon magnetic drain plug = boo

I'm tempted to write a similar thread on the product review forum ...

I changed my oil after hours at work today, and after removing my spoon magnetic drain plug I began to wipe it off and remove the old washer. As I did this, the magnet broke off

I'm glad it happened then and not while it was reinstalled, but I don't know if that little magnet would have traveled far ... still

For whatever I paid (I think it was obscene, like 45 bucks for two plugs), I am pretty disappointed, It's not been longer than a year that I've had this plug on on my pan.

Adam says boooo.

^^ yeah, I wasn't inferring that it happens with all of them, just that it sucks that it happened at all. Which one are you using for your oil pan? The one that broke was the long one.

i tried to get one of those, but they never had em in stock. I changed the oil today, and to be honest, i like the regular bolt. I dont have any oil drops, and i got a lift so i m not complaining.

jsmooney is obviously asking in your experience, not what the product claims to do. just like with any product out there. just because a product claims something doesnt mean its actually gonna do it so thats why jsmooney is asking. and im curious aswell if the plug does anything noticeable. worth the money or not.

Yeah si_g, it wasn't supposed to make oil changes easier, it was supposed to catch any metal shavings or debris floating around in your pan or transmission. I never found chunks, lol, I think I may have seen metal goop but who knows, either way I'm not really impressed with the plug lol, as soon as I find my old drain plug I'm going to box this bastard up and send it back to Spoon.

probably not, but I'll at least try to get in contact with them without wasting too much time, I think it's kinda $hitty that something meant to keep things floating around in your oil had the potential to be the biggest contributer to the problem.

yea, thats really bad. personally, i rely on my oil filter to filter that stuff on, not on a magnet. if you have big enough pieces in your oil that a small magnet is able to attract it, you have a lot bigger problems. and with the ridiculous prices that spoon/mugen charge, they should be made of 24K gold and last 3 lifetimes. well, maybe 2.
