Spoiler LEDs

I got a 93 with a spoiler that has LEDs. I know it wasnt stock for that year, so i wasnt surprised to see it wasnt hooked up. I connected it and found sadly that there are 5-10 LEDs taht dont work in the strip.

Now im not sure what to do. I want to get in there to see if maybe i can just replaced the individual LEDs with a little soldering, or replace the lot of them with a custom strip, but i cant find a way to get that thing out of the wing. There are no screws. Is it glued in? Has anyone taken it out before? any ideas?

Im not about to get another wing they are stupid expensive for no reason.

Its a bummer cuz it looks really cool with all the brake lights and the spoiler minus the gaps in the LEDs. also the burned out ones are in groups of 5 and there are two groups not working.

There are screws on the underside of the spoiler, you'll have to take the spoiler off the car to get to them, you'll probably have to go to the dealer and buy the entire cluster though. Question though, is yours an Si or Si VTEC? Mine is an Si and the previous owner put the wing on and had it painted with the car but I want to delete the roof light and hook up the wing, where was the plug?

the wire to the led cluster runs out of the right side of teh wing into the trunk. from there it can go inside the swingarm of the trunk and come out a hole in the side where you will be able to easily hook it to the passenger side tail light.

I havent dug in deep enough to see if there was actually a plug. This is because when I bought the car the wire was cut and shoved up into the wing. I pulled it out and traced where i wanted to put it and found the other half of the wire (instead of a plug or something). From what I can see, it is just sharing the wire with the tail light. I strongly feel that the same is true for my car (that the previous owner installed the wing and wired it himself. Mine is an Si Vtec. Im going to leave the center brake light even if/when i get the LEDs working. Better visibility and it looks cool, I think. I wouldnt ever get rid of it simply beause i want those tall SUVs and trucks behind me to be able to see it for sure!

so there are screws on the underside of the wing that i just didnt see before?

It's #3 on the pic, I'd rather just buy the replacement then try to make something aftermarket work, the dealer may be more expensive but it'll be a lot easier and guaranteed to work.

^ He's going to be take a huge gamble on buying the oem led because he knows the spoiler on his car isn't factory. I actually wound up buying an led from that exact store after someone stole mine. There are several different oem type spoilers on the market. I compared what I thought my stock wing was to another prelude which was for sure stock. There were subtle difference such as the height and angles/lengths of the 2 ends and of course the led it self. With out a close look you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Anyways to the op remove the led that's currently on the car. Measure the length and look at the mounting tabs and try to see which one on the website matches up. The best thing is that website has diagrams with measurements so you can compare easily.

i tried to open mine and end up with some cracks on the red cover... and wasnt complete loose... so i put a heat gun to remove it and try to "glue" some of the cracks... and end up buying one from Spoilerlights.com

it have a little space between the spoiler and the light... besides that it fit fine

the other (stock) Im planning to use it to make like an entry or courtesy light in the passenger side...

well I took a closer look at the wing and I cant seem to find any screws for the LED strip. Is number 3 in that diagram a screw? Im almost 100% positive the spoiler is an original lude one because it looks exactly the same as the one thats on my 92 except it has the lights in it and my 92 is bare.

based on the measurements and pictures from spoilerlights.com I think it will almost certainly fit, i just cant get the damn thing out of there.

There should be 4 screws holding it in or those plastic type screw clips honda uses. It should be pretty obvious if you look directly behind the spoiler led.

and as spin_r_g says it uses 4 screws and 4 metal clips from the stock LED strip.. it dont come with them

are you guys taking off the wing to get behind the LED strip? I think it would be easier to take off this way.

i just ran out and checked again. Im almost certain now that mine is held in by an adhesive strip. It seems like the only option since i can move it around a little (doesnt feel anchored)

were there any stock wings that used adhesive to hold it in? My car is a 93, and i dont think those had the led wings, so its almost definitely from another year.

no stock/oem spoilers were held down with adhesive.

Sorry, thats not what I meant. The spoiler itself is bolted on. I was referring to the LED strip in the spoiler that is held by adhesive or some double sided tape or something that isnt a screw...

I think that non-led looks better.

no, the led strip is only held in by the screws.
