Spoiler LED wiring problem

Okay, I spliced my spoiler LED brake light pos. wire to the orange wire in tail light assembly (brake light), and it's neg. to the red (i think it's red) wire with a black stripe which is ground wire.

The LED brake light is basically working when it wants to, more particularly when the car is off. It's kinda weird, because sometimes it works when the car is on, but only idle, not when I shift in park. Anyone know what the problem might be? I know it's not a loose connection because I did a pretty good and professional job splicing the wires.

It saves a lot of trouble from having to run the wires inside to the 3rd brake light wires. Is this why everyone connects their LED spoiler lights to the 3rd brake light though, because connecting them to the tail light brake lights seems to be a lot easier..
Any help is greatly appreciated.
