Speedometer Broke! Help!

Ok Guys, so me and Brian were crusin'.. I take an exit to get onto a Highway up here, and as soon as I turn the corner, I gun it..... shifting at redline in every gear... When I shift into 4th, I look down to do a speed check and I notice my speedometer is chillin' at the 0 mph mark..... SURELY that can't be right!

So we pull over and I power the car down, and reboot like a computer.... and then I accelerate slow... Speedometer works, till I hit about 42-45 mph and then it quickly drops to nothing.... And then when I accelerate again it doesnt move.... power on/off again, do it again, drops at 45 again... Pull over, disconnect Battery terminal, wait a minute or two, then plug back in... same results.... And we noticed the Odometer is not moving at all, or if it is, very very very slowly....

Fix me.

P.S. The Check Engine light came on during a test run right before we disconnected power.... on the drive home it didn't come back on but who knows... Is the check engine light associated to the speedometer?

P.S.S. The Tach works.
I have a feeling its the "speed sensor" that I heard P-2-Dub talking about when he did his Swap, but I dont know where it is or what I'd be looking for... Lemme know.

If I remember correctly, the speed sensor is in the tranny. Do a search on it and you will see a picture of it in a thread where they were trying to see if a 4th and 5th gen speed sensor would interchange. Hope that helps!

I don't think it still works if your speed sensor is bad.

The speedometer doesn't roll. I know because I was still driving and thinking that if I never fixed it and sold it, an unwitting victim would think the car had low miles. I had the same problem before I swapped out the H23. Fortunately I did because the speed sensor was busted on the H22. It's not really that hard to replace, just have to be patient. I got the part new from www.hparts.com for a pretty decent price, but I was impatient and could've got it for less.

I've heard that the speed sensor is usually busted when you get a JDM H22...probably from the location and how small the lil basta'd is.

Here is the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor).

It puts out 1,026 pulses @ 60mph, if your speedometer isnt working, I would check the vss circuit.

The part above the line is what you will see, the shiny part is down inside the p/s rack.
There will be 2 p/s hoses and a 2 wire connector on top of the vss unit.

If it isn't the VSS circuit, which it very possibly may be, the part number at www.hparts.com is Part #: 432814. I had called Honda and they were asking right around $130 I believe (don't quote me on that though), but bc imports price was: $78.30 + $6.68 ground shipping. I had looked around and their price was better than more than 25 different companies I looked into. Just hope it helps out.
