Speed Sensor, CEL, Speedo not working

I've searched around the forums and I think I've found a good bit of information on the problem where the Speedometer does not work and the CEL is on. The shift indicator on the dash is also not working..but car drives and shifts forward and reverse fine.

I've not had a chance to check the codes (the car is an hour away, my daughter has it at college), but does the shift indicator not working sound like a different problem?

I only saw in one post a reference to removing the power steering hoses (this is an H23 engine)...is this required to replace the VSS?

Another piece if information is that this car was hit in the rear a week ago. She was pushed into the car in front, but no damage to the front of the car as far as we can see. The rear 1/4 is crinkled, unibody bent...any explainable way this could be related. The fact that it's a week later and it seem so to be a common problem with the car leads me to say no.

Thanks

Ray

I did find out more info. The D4 indicator light is blinking (shift indicator), which means something in the transmission control module and it's sensors is not operating (probably the speed sensor)

my speedometer wasnt working in my accord but car shifted fine, and shift indicator worked so i replaced the vehicle speed sensor. Bought it on ebay for like 40 bucks or less,.. fixed the problem, and i got cruise control back.

SNsLude: thanks for the thread link. I didn't see that in my search the other night on here. The picture and info will come in handy.

New VSS did the trick! The hardest time I had was disconnecting the wire. Even with push on the release button, it was stuck!
