I don't have an answer for you, but I'm pretty sure you have to send your ecu somewhere to have it changed. What reason do you have to be going over 120mph anyway?

Sure do, its called search! You're not the first person to do the swap.

I've heard that if you install a piggyback (AFC for example) it would take off the limiter. I have not done it, but I would be doing the swap next year and see for my self.

The speed limiter is the H22 that's under the hood.

goto ebay or the junk yard and buy a usdm ecu. Some piggybacks do allow you to move the top speed limiter(I know my field vsfc does). Or, as someone else suggested, you could swap to a chipped p28 or p72(preferably the 72 as it has controls for you iab's). That would also allow you to get your setup tuned.

I don't know why you even care about removing the ecu speed limiter. Once that's gone, the speed limited by the tranny isn't too much higher. (4th gen tranny)

4.27:1 final drive and a 0.870 5th gear and 205/50/16 tires equates to a speed of 145mph@7500rpm..... 154mph@8000rpm if you've got the power to get it to the rev limiter. Thats quit a bit higher than the 120mph top speed limiter. If I've got the gear ratios wrong, someone let me know and I'll recalculate everything. I cant really think of any reason to be going that fast though...

^ha i would love to see how much space, wind, downhill is needed for you to max out the car.

as much as you like it to be, the stock speedo is nowhere near accurate that high. hell, even the tach isn't accurate (mine shows almost 8k at rev limiter whenever i knwo it only goes to 7600)

if you track, this could be a problem. i was able to easily go over 117mph in the h23, but now i have an h22, going counterclockwise at TWS, i'm sure i could easily hit it again

I wasnt using the speedometer or the tach to make that claim. I was using a simple mathmatical formula given the transmissions gear ratio, the final drive ratio, and the tire size to show the true top speed potential of the vehicle at a given rpm. As I stated "thats if you have enough power to reach the rev limiter". A stock h22 isnt going to get anywhere near 8000rpm in 5th gear without (as you stated) a long downhill, and some wind....or in my case, a 75 shot. Just for the record though, if you have the stock wheel and tire combo that your vehicle came with(I know most people with a car this old dont) the speedo is actually pretty accurate . When checked against my gps, it was only 4mph fast @ 140(gps showed 136).

I've done a few top speed runs before (I was younger & more stupid) and could never get the needle to 140. That was with me sitting there with my foot glued to the floor waiting... and waiting.. and waiting.

By the way, I don't recomend anyone doing such things on public roads.

^i hear ya. never done it in my car but i have in the c5.

they claim its top speed is 172 but as hard as i pushed it, 160ish was the most i could get out of her. plus you could just feel how long it would take to get there.

4th gen 3000lbs+ 200hp/160tq vs c5 3200lbs 350hp/350tq.

yeah that theorethical top speed from a 4th gen comes down a bit

I have got the needle to 140 more than ones several years back. That speed was confirmed against my friends VAFC-II, I was like 2 mph faster than the spedo. And I did that with a bone 94 vtec with USDM h22, I think back then my car was at around 70K miles. Personally I believe that a JDM h22 could get to 8K in 5th with Hondata, but there are many factors that would affect that.
