I'm just wondering about the MSD ignition...what is it exactly and what does it do...how does is help in performance and if any performance.

It increases the number and intensity of the spark. That is good for better combustion and more efficiency. You can also use them to advance or retard the ignition timing depending on what set-up you have nitrous/boost=retard, all motor=advance. You can get them with or without revlimiters. You can even get one w/2 rev limiters for a more consistant launch at the strip. Mike

Really won't do much if you don't have a heavily modified car, except maybe smooth out the idle a tad.
