Apologize in advance for non-technical lingo--I'm not a mechanic.

The 3rd spark plug keeps coming loose; every time I tighten it, it seems to pry itself out of place in a few weeks. The effect is that it makes the engine have a faint "chugging" noise that goes away once I make sure the spark plug is well-tightened. Why does this happen?

The plug wire or the plug itself? Try switching it to a different cylinder to see if its a problem with the plug or the cylinder threads or something.

It's the plug itself; I'm gonna try changing the cylinder it's on, see if that helps.... thanks!

happened in my brothers miata last week. the plug kept popping out... like every 10 mins. turns out the threading somehow got stripped. the mechanic had to put some sort of spacer in there and then put the plug in the spacer thing.

sorry i don't have exact details, but maybe it'll give you an idea of whats going on.
