Sound tar owns j00 all!

I have finally taken out most of the tar, this was a b*tch doing it. I only recommend you doing this if you have no girlfriend, have a lot of freetime on your hands or just love doing work on your car. I only have the trunk, under the ecu, the driver side tar left and clean up the little spots, that shouldnt be to hard. Then goes down my new carpeting. I'm redoing my whole interior to be black with black vinal. I'm going to get some leather back seats as well. I still can't decide which bucket seats I will get. Most likely they will be the sparco milanos. RIght now I have the lightest prelude.

1. First I used a hair dryer and put it on its highest setting on hot. I kept it running on around the same area for a few seconds. It doesn't take to long for it to become soft.

2. I used a chizel to scrap the tar off. Starting is probably the the most critical part. If you heated it just right, the tar can come off all together, this might be the easier and cleaner. If you heated it to much the tar turns to mush and makes more of a mess. On some parts you cant avoid this. When I started off I lifted the one end and just kept heating the bottom as I chizeled the tar out. This is really time consuming and takes a bit of muscle.

3. After you have taken all tar out you will have scraps and black marks everywhere, use that 3M removing adhesive spray. This cleans a wider area than the goof off. Let it sit for about a minute or two and just wipe it off with a rag. I did this about 3 or 4 times. If you still have tar there spray it with the 3M and use the chizel to get rid of all the bumps.

4. For a cleaner look and getting rid of the tougher marks, you might want to use goof off. It is a little bit more powerful than the 3M. It also gets rid of the glue in the corners.

All it takes is a little dedication and hard work. There were some days I was just going to give up totally and just forget about it, but I'm happy with the result.

how loud is it inside? Do you have an aftermarket exhaust? Is it to loud and raspy without the sound tar?

This is what I'm worried about if I take my tar out, now that the entire rear portion of my car is now gutted (minus the trunk liner)...

did you weigh the tar when it was out? if you took off more than 100 lbs than i would consider this but for 25-30lbs i dont see the point...also, how come one of your requirements is "dont have a girlfriend", my girlfriend helped me take out the tar in my monte carlo...she also helped to break the passenger side window in my face

For one thing they wont have a place to sit and mine got pissed when I said this was the cool thing to do. When I was showing this off to my "car friends" they thought I was cool for doing it. Everyone else, classmates, girlfriend, etc. they thought I was a dumbass. Luckly I have a beater, but I rarely drove it, only to take people out. When I brought my car to my "none car friends" when we were going somewhere he would always bring a stool for him to sit on. So I put the back seats in for him. Its funny though when ever he had anouther friend over and we were going to go somewhere, his friends would call shotgun and both of us would just laugh. My friend would always call the passenger backseat.

looks ok, but i personally dont agree with it, i mean seriously, removing the rear seats side panels..they together weigh maybe 10lbs if that theyre nothing bt foam pads, the only sig weight is the passenger seat..which u could remove at the track but it even only weighs 20lbs, i weighed mine, so for all that your saving maybe 50lbs...and to me it looks horrible, the prelude was designed as a sport compact, but with some luxury, theres nthihg sexier in a prelude to me than the 4th gen black leather 94- up setup...but to each thier own, i did run against a guy locally who had his entire lude gutted..except his seat and dash..id rather have my interior in, looks much nicer, i have all the leather components except the seats, and it doesnt affect my speed one bit peace

BUT, if you have a harness, and/or a cage in your car, you don't need the rear seats/interior, and in the case of Takata harnesses, you can't have the rear seat behind you, b/c you have to screw in the eye-screws to clip the harness ends to. Gutting isn't always a fashion statement. The seats and interior weighed more than 10lbs, too...I was surprised at this, b/c everybody always told me that the all-foam rear seats weighed nothing...they weigh more than 5-10 lbs, though.

i wieghed my 2 reaer panels, all 4 peices of the rear seats and they weighed 14lbs...the only rear section that had any weight was the one that folds down because of the metal in it..and the console, and ect weighs nothing i weighed everything that i took out..so my numbers are very accurate

Cool! I'm talking mainly about those who said it was only like 5 pounds...weight is weight though. And when you have a Takata harness, I'm almost positive that w/o cutting into the left rear seat to go around the eye-screws, you can't have your seat in in that spot, so you might as well take both out, hahaha...

Yeah, w/ your times, I bow down. I can only hope for those times when I get my head swap done. I'm hoping to put down 200 hp to the wheels...I gave up on my turbo dreams.
