*Edited* Something wrong with my car, rev limiter at 3000 rpms

How's it going guys, ok, so the other day on the way to work on the expressway, i all of a sudden heard this kind of a rattle/malfunctioning mechanism sound coming from the engine. Traffic slowed down so I did too, and when I went to accelerate again, if felt like my old 87 Dodge Ram pickup because there was absolutly no power there what-so-ever and the sound got louder the more i would accelerate. Not only that but it sputters like crazy and hesitates all over the place. Even at Idle, it sounds like the car is choking, it wants to stall, but it doesn't.

I feared something bad so I did a compression check and came up with 190, 190, 190, 190 k2a accross the board.

The car runs, but it really runs like crap.

So the other other thing that i think it might be is something fuel related, injectors? fuel pump?

The fuel filter was replaced recently
ALL dist stuff was replaced last year, plugs, wires, cap, rotor.

Any Ideas? Thanks a lot.

it could be the injector resister which should be on the driver side near the firewall. or the injector driver in the ecm

*UPDATE*

I was certain that it was fuel related and I thought I narrowed it down to the fuel injectors. So I sent them out to RC engineering to have them cleaned and balanced. One was dripping at about 320 cc, one was fair at about 330 cc, and the others were fine. They cleaned them all so they're all running at 340 cc across the board.

Now, the car idles great, but once i get to 2800 - 2900 RPMs, it feels like someones holding the car back, like i'm hitting a brick wall. There is no accelearation at that point, and the more I step on it, the less it accelerates.

I really don't know where else to look. The fuel filter was replaced, the spark plugs were replaced, the timing was checked, and re-done, the PCV valve was replaced, and the injectors were cleaned.

Any help would be great cause i'm not sure where to look next.

Check this out:

Mine seems to be fixed, but I've come across the same issue a few times...

What happens at ~3000rpm?

I would say spark plug... from what you've described, sounds like one cylinder isn't firing. I would check your plugs twice, replace em and check the gap too. Doesn't hurt to double check...

NO CEL, that's the weird thing. No smoke, no CEL, just a lot of running like crap.

Would a clogged cat cause this? what about the EGR? or the IAC? This is really buggin the hell out of me. Today I'm gonna try those things but I really don't think that's it.

When I'm reving it up from the engine bay on the TB, that sound that i hear that gets louder the more i accelerate sounds like its coming from the intake manifold. I don't know, i'll just have to keep trying i guess.

Ok, this is really weird. I took a look at the EGR valve, IAC valve, re-checked the spark plugs, re-checked the timing, and put the timing gun on each spark plug wire to make sure that a signal is going through. ALL are ok..

So I took it for a spin and i now I can NOT rev past 3000 rpms, in any gear or in neutral!! The other day I thought it was just a drastic loss of power at 3000 rpms, but I can't rev past that at ALL. It sounds like the fuel is getting cut off or something, it doesn't sound like a car bouncing off a rev-limiter.

So I switched ECUs with the p14 I have laying around and it does the same thing, only at 2500 rpms, and runs even worse.

Also, when i rev it in neutral, the car will stall once the rpms drop back down.

Is this my distributor? What else can possible cause this? I can try plugging in the JDM distributor but I'm not sure how to wire in an internal coil?

ANY IDEAS? Thanks again.
