Something weird happened last night.

I started the car normally, it rev'ed to 1K and then just dropped fast and died. I mean engine, lights, radio everything. I turned the key back to off and then tried again, same thing. Now I am getting worried. I tried a third time, started up no problem and idled normally this time. Drove off no problem car runs fine like normal. WTF just happened?

Could be the ignition switch. They tend to wear out and funny stuff starts happening, like the car won't crank.

Could be the main relay as well. When I had a main relay problem the car would start rev up then just die. Only thing different for me was if I tried to start it again it would just crank but never turn over. After a couple of tires it would start up fine.

My radio used to cut in and out...it was a fuse that had a bad connection internally.

Have you checked the battery? Mine did that exact thing when mine started going South.

chester, so you basically replaced the clock/radio fuse? when my radio goes out, its just the radio - i wiggle the key and it comes back on

That's exactly what I did. I do have problems with my ignition sometimes...I'll be getting ready to start the car and everything will just go off. Taking the key out and starting over fixes it or hitting on the dash around the ignition usually fixes it.

^oh god don't tell me that. I used to hit my dash to get my climate control to switch over. That was all caused by bad solder joints. Well the crazy thing is that it hasn't happened again so its hard to diagnose the problem. What I do know is that this happened to me before in my other prelude twice. The only difference with the current situation is that before I was driving and it simply died on the road. But for both preludes the situation is the same. They didn't stall out. They both simply died, shut off , electrical, engine everything. I think this is a common thing in preludes and it would be nice to know exactly what the cause is. I have read up on this a little and could it possibly be the igniter in the distributor going bad? or a Main relay? I know nothing about the Main relay? So any info on that would be good.

Two weeks ago I did some routine maintenance. I readjusted the idle using the helms manual instructions, replaced the distributor cap and rotor, new plugs and oil. I was haveing some idle issues before the maintenance. The rpms would dip down below 600 and vibrate my car which drove me crazy. But now its been idleing better/normally now especially after running for awhile. Maybe I tweaked my idle too much?

My car started dying randomly a long time ago. I cleaned the battery terminals with a baking soda/water mix since they were really bad and it was fine after that.
