someone help with ecu question

i saw an article a long time ago on some website about tapping in to the memory wire of the car and erasing the memory every few times you drove it. can anyone tell me where that article or some tech info about that might be? also would anyone recommend doing that? thanks

All you do is disconnnect to negative terminal to the battery... I believe its either that of the positive one, i cant remember... There wont be any damage, but the bad thing is, if u erase all the memory, if ur engine ever has a problem, the guys wont be able to read what it is if u have erased it.

It's the negative cable. If you do that any CEL's or other dummy lights that have been thrown will be erased so you can never see what they were again though. The gains from this are negligible, but if you want every last ounce of power you can get (with your stock ecu) go for it i guess, you wont notice much, if anything.

i know about doing that. i was wondering what wire the article said to cut and run to a switch. that way you don't have to pull the cable or fuse and lose your preset's and time. you flip the switch on before you drive it then it "relearns" everything. naturally i wouldn't flip the switch off if i had a cel on. i just would like to know which wire to use (or just find the article). doing the memory erase actually seems to help my car.

I think this is what you're looking for.

this workround does not apply to our cars unless you have a 96 prelude with the obdII ecu. With our cars (92-95), the OBDI ecu does not "relearn" everytime you start you car, i.e. bolt-ons such as intake, header, exhaust, etc. Therefore, you do not need to reset the ecu everytime you drive your car.

thats weird because it seems like over time my car gets slower, then when i reflash the ecu it picks up a tenth or so. i just got through doing the coolant bypass and iacv bypass and egr block. then reflashed the ecu and it seemed to help. had to adjust the idle a little though.

yeah, I don't think your OBDI ECU has a memory, like my OBDII does. But if I want to keep passing my states inspection, then I have to leave it as OBDII I believe Punks
