So who has fixed the Lude's luke-cold A/C??

I think a lot of us have iffy A/C in our older cars and in a black on black car it can be a real problem. I'm just wondering if people have fixed this by a simple recharge or whether it's probably something more serious. I don't think I have a leak because it's been the same temperature since I bought it 3 years ago, but not sure what else could cause the weak A/C. Unless they were just made this way.

I know when i bought mine, it came with all the records, and the core had been replaced, and the system also recharged...

must be a common problem.. mine works fine though i guess because it was fixed previously..

I got mine fixed about two years ago.
They said everything except the core needed to be replaced.

Dammit Pter! I want to know if it made a significant improvement for you or not. Is it ice cold now or is it similar to before you fixed it?

Ahahahahah....awesome! This is the cure for most things gone bad in 4th gens, since they cost so damn much to work on & buy parts for. If I ever sell my car, I'm going to completely remove the ABS system, so I can get rid of that damn light.

Come on - I know people have recharged their systems or had some repairs. I want to know if it was worth it!! I can live with it as it is but if something simple would help, then I'm game.

I had mine recharged...no repairs needed, before I went to Mississippi for a year. It worked great for that year...then went into the cold-sometimes, luke-cold othertimes mode.

Mine is horrible about this! I thought it was a bad switch in the switches because sometimes it would blow ice cold, but most of the time it was luke warm.

It had a a new a/c compressor put in two motors ago...

I believe 93 was the first year that they started using R-134. I have a 92, so mine is R12 (freon).

It will blow really cold when it's been sitting in the shade for a long time and car is cooled down. If it sits out in the parking lot for a couple hours in the 110 degree weather, it takes forever to blow anything colder than lukewarm. Of course, always use the recirculation button as it blows harder and colder as the car cools down.

So for those that use the R-134, I thought you can't recharge it like freon?

yeah see for me, i got a 95 and i only replaced the a/c condenser and then recharged it and now if my car sits in the shade, it blows ice cold but if my car has been in the sun, then it takes a while for it to get cold.......but none the less....it's cold! =)

you can't recharge R12 yourself. You can convert it to R134 and replace that yourself.

If you do go to pep boys to get freon make sure you don't get anything with a leak stopper in it. If you do put that stuff in it and take it to a shop, most shops won't even touch it.

mine blows luke cold, but I also noticed that it blows luke warm durning the winter. I think I'm going to replace the heater core and see if that helps.

BTW - I've recharged my R-134 and it didn't help. I've measured the high and low side pressures, and they're both within spec. I'm hoping the heater core will be my fix.
