so my PS belt snapped.... *UPDATE*

but whats weird is how my A/C / Alternator belt came loose as well... is there any explanation to this.... or was it just a coincidence.....

I was really fortunate to have my Crankshaft pulley intact.. but loose....

Maybe it's just coincidence. Could be problems...

I've had a PS belt snap before. But it was very old and actually came off a friends car.

So my engine looks like this:

Replacing cranks is so fun

yea... it is definately the crank pulley...i had the same thing happened to me a couple of months ago, and it look a lil like the pics posted above, but i didnt have any engine damage. its an easy fix...and i recommed replacing it with a brandnew stock part. I got the OEM part at honda for somewhere around 120 with all the tools needed...I HIGHLY SUGGEST you do not drive the car unti this is replaced because driving with a bad crank pulley will cause severe damage to the engine. I was lucky my belts snapped by my shop, so i just drove 5 mins and left it overnight until i got the part.

good luck.

okay.... so how is it that my crank pulley suddenly became loose?

I was able to retighten it... but im waiting on a torque wrench so i can torque the crankshaft pulley bolt to 181 ft. lbs (according to the helms manual)....

so to answer my own question... I NEED to replace my crank pulley.... turns out that there's a bearing inside the pulley.... and I'm assuming since its worn out.. it started to come loose...

price for a new pulley at Honda: $190....

yea they just go bad after that many years...my car is 93...when it broke, i looked at it, and it was just plain gone...no questions asked, i replaced it...it was just worn, i couldnt tell u why...i guess its ware and tare...but i can assure you that is the problem...i was driving home, my lights dim for a sec...i heard a small snap, and i lost power steering at the stering wheel...i was taking a highway exit...so i pulled over and just grabbed the belts right there with the engine still running, parked it at the shop, and the next day, took the crank pulley off to see that it was retired, and replaced it.

okay... so I replaced the crankshaft pulley as well as both the PS and Alternator / A/C belt....

Si_g was correct as far as the bearing just getting worn out after time... worst thing was the Pulley wore out out the key to the Crankshaft Pulley.... and I wanted to mention that to people that when your crankshaft pulley goes out.. also check the key b/c if thats worn out and you don't check it... when you replace the crankshaft pulley... its just gonna go out in a matter of weeks.... so yea..

i'll try to post pixs of the old key and crankshaft pulley ASAP....

if anybody is curious to as far as installation goes... its pretty straight forward.... take out the bolt (19mm), R/R crankshaft pulley, put a dab of silicone on a few threads of the bolt, and reinstall the bolt... Helm's manual specify that the bolt should be torqued to 180 ft/lbs....
