Also, pay attention to lighting, unless you are really looking to just get silhouette of car, try to place your car so that there is lighting directly above it, or in front so that the car can be seen.
These pics below are set up with a D-SLR, but you can achieve similar levels IF you set up your P&S appropriately and use tripod with either a timed shutter release, or a remote shutter.
Note the light that is hitting the front or top of car in these settings, etc to help illuminate some details of the car....
Also, if you are looking to use lighting for added reflective value in the paint, etc. Try a garage at night too. White bulb lit garages can be really nice because they are bright enough to illuminate the entire car, but because its not natural light, its tends to be more "playful" and really bounces of the car dynamically (still shoot at night in this case).
