snowboard carrier

Hey guys, any recommendations on what kind of snowboard or ski carrying system for my car? I hear Thule is a good company to go with.

Peace

I have a Thule rack for my car and it works well, especially for bikes. The only problem you run into on a 4th gen in that the roofline is curved and relatively short. For the Thule system the racks end up being about 12 inches apart and I found at certain highway speeds the board likes to bounce and flap, which makes me a little nervous at speed, but I've never had an actual problem with it. Still, I'd use the pass through if you can for a snowboard, I have a 156 and it fits ok. Skiis don't have as much surface area so the aero effect is less, and the interior option is not as easy due to the length.
Thule does make a high quality system, supposedly designed for autobahn speeds, but watch the locking cores, they will rust after a season if you don't keep them lubricated.
And don't pay list, Thule dealers are usually in bike/ski shops and they expect you to bargain on a package, so they price a little high.

You can also look at Yakima as an alternative to Thule. I have owned both, and I think Yakima's towers and clips fit a little better on import rooflines (I used to drive an Infiniti G20). Thule racks seems to do better on German and Swedish vehicles. Both are great systems though. You can expect to pay around $200 for towers, clips, and crossbars to fit your vehicle. Then add the specific carrier for your cargo, be it snowboards, skies, bikes, a kayak, this list goes on and on. A pack of 4 lock cores is usually around $38.
