smoking h22 of doom

145 thousand miles on h22a1 - recent compression test w/ 180, 180, 160, 180 - determined worn rings on #3 - My car has always blown huffs of smoke when I shift when i'm on it (whitish, bluish), but lately it's been a mild crop duster when i'm ripping on it. With compression numbers like those you wouldn't think i was getting blow-by that bad, so perhaps it is valve seals? My car eats a good amount of oil, too (depending on how I drive) My oil also gets dirty after about 500 miles after an oil change, and my most recent change I pulled the oil pan and cleaned out the sludge and replaced the gasket and threw in a magneto oil plug. Any ideas appreciated.

can you post exactly how much oil it is eating in a certain interval?

a puff at high rpm is normal with the VTEC motors. the computer so richens the mix near readline, they blow a bit of carbon on WOT.

As for your compression, you really need a leakdown test. but I would say its time to rebuild.

what oil are you using and what is your change interval?

sludge should not build up in the pan, unless you are running a non-degergent oil with 10k mile intervals.

yeah, as i stated my car has always huffed smoke when I shifted. But lately it has gotten worse, and smoke comes out constantly, but lightly, the entire time I am on it. A leak down test? I determined it was losing compression at the rings in number 3 simply by putting oil in the cylinder. If it were valves the oil would not have made a difference from what I understand. Those are really good compression numbers I got 2 weeks ago, so a rebuild doesn't sound needed to me.

I use valvoline 10-30, and I recently pulled my car out of storage and changed the oil right away, and yes there was some sludging.
