smoke...ecu codes

first thing, I called a shop to make an appt for them to look at my car on friday, they told me to come in monday. I get there, and they are like, who are you?? So I tell them whats up and the guy says ok, we're gonna pull the ecu codes off your car and see whats up... he says its showin 1,8 and I think he said 4.

He was saying something about it being the shifting solenoid, and the locking solenoid... is why sometimes my car will flash the d4 light....

Heres whats been happening... sometimes from a stop when my car has warmed up , when i gas it , a small puff of smoke comes out of the exhaust. I can't really tell whether its blue-ish or white..

I havent lost any coolant from what I can see, but my car has been leaking a little oil...

He was also saying it could be the valve guides or the seals or piston rings , he doesnt really know without lookin at it, im gonna take it back to him in a couple days... I have to get the day off

any ideas on what im lookin at??
he pulled the ecu codes for free too

Mine did that and it was valve seals and guides. Replaced them all and it stopped. How many miles on your car? Did you do a compresion/leakdown test. That will tell you about your rings.
When you romp on it do your friends tell you it is smoking.

Good luck,

Tom

havent done a compression test....
125k miles...
well I can see the smoke when i go from a dead stop
and its happened maybe once or twice when I was going about 50, its like my engine stutters for a second, and then some smoke goes out the rear

how much was it to replace all that stuff??

If you do your own work, about 60 for head gasket, 15 for a valve cover gasket, and around 150 to 200 for machine shop to take valves out press in new guides and install seals. While you have the head off you might want to do timing belt (35?) and water pump (55?). A bit of work, expect about 1 wk down time if machine shop can do a quick 3 day turn around.
