skunk 2 shift knob review...

I just got mine last night, and after driving with it , I love it. Shifts are very smooth and crisp now. Before I was fighting to get them in gear sometimes. I picked it up and its amazing how much it weighs. 1 lb.! 16oz! Its awsome, this mixed with my 4bidden shifter equals AWSOME set up. Just telling everyone, Its the little things like this that make driving more enjoyable!!!!

Does it heat up a lot?

I've been thinking about making a shift knob and putting some kind of coating on it to keep it from heating up since people have problems with knobs getting scorching hot in the sun.

Was this the regular Skunk2 knob? I didn't know they made a heavy knob, only Greddy.

Anyways, this just goes to prove that cable shifted Hondas need as much weight as they can in the shifting mechanism.

Ah, was it you Ryu that told me about the Greddy knob? I've had a few customers email me saying they added a heavier knob and it helps. I bet if I could machine these shifters out of solid lead the shift would be even better than it already is.

I just take my Oakley sunglasses bag and put it over my shift knob. Keeps it nice and cool, and out of view to would be thiefs.

Pretty bad when you have to hide your shift knob from thieves.
I used to do the same thing with my Oakley bag in my old truck.

Are the counter weighted shift knobs a screw on type like the CNC aluminum ones that they have? I have one of the original ones in my car right now. I like it because it screws onto the shifter and not held in place with allen head screws. I like the look of the new knob, besides my orginal Grex/trust one is getting worn out. The plate on top of it that has the shift pattern is dirty as hell, and the chrome finish is wearing off. I really like the new one, if it is a screw on type I am certainly going to buy one.

Question.....

I see that the piece on top with the shift pattern is interchangeable....how do they attach?

I have the skunk2 shiftknob, but haven't received your ss yet to try it out. The feel with the skunk2 is great with the stock shifter.

The skunk2 screws down into the shifter and then a nut holds it on the bottom. I bought it for like 40 bucks at a local speed shop.

here is a picture of it on inline4

If it's like the original CNC Aluminum one like I have, then you peel off the adhesive backing and stick it on the shift knob. It's a heavy duty aluminum based decal.

wouldn't lead be a little too soft for yankin' through the gears?

Not the lead I'm thinking of. I remember playin pogs years ago and the lead "slammers" were the heaviest ones there were.

I'm probably confused.

LMAO.. pogs.. hahaha.. The Shredder slammer was the best! Aha.

Anyways. The Greddy shift knob is a screw in kind just like the OEM one, no nut, just screws tight. The decal on the top is like said before, a soft plastic lense with aluminum backing which has an adhesive on the very back, which just sticks onto the top of the shift knob in an inset circle. They don't budge.

As per it getting hot, I do the exact same thing with my Arnette sunglass bag

The Greddy knob was $40, it's a great addition to the shifter man.

Yes, if I leave mine out in the sun and bare hand it to shift when I get in, I have to shift as fast as I can and it still makes my hand hurt pretty bad.

You need a short shifter so your shifts are quicker then so you dont burn your hand making those long stock shifts.

Just trying to help a luder out.

So Ryu, you would suggest the Greddy heavy knob to people for a better shift?

I'd say it made a noticeable difference. And, it's quite comfortable.

I'm happy with it.
