size comparison SI brakes / Vtec brakes *pics*

I just recently bought/installed the vtec calipers on my SI. All bought from Mike95lude

if yall remember, there was a thread on hondatech saying that the calipers are the same but brackets were different. well this is not the case because i tried to fit the old calipers on the new brackets.

here are some comparison pics:

what i started out with

now here for some before/after size comparison on the car.

before

after (sorry for not a straight on shot)

^ it fills in the 16'' quite nicely. i already flushed with the ATE and broke in the rotors/pads. i did have quite a big mistake though, the brake dust shield scrapped the rotor (immediatly evident when i took the car for a test drive). I barely got around the block and back to bend the shields back only to notice a pretty big (well not big gash but relative) gash along the inside of the new rotors just from that small contact. oh well, i bent it back and now i'm just going easy.

To clarify - you're saying that the inner part of the caliper (that says Nissin) that holds just the piston is a different size? That's weird - I've heard so many different opinions. But I have seen part stores that do show the same part number and I have an old pair of Legend calipers and those brackets fit onto my SI calipers!

^well they might have fit better if i actually tried i dunno when i put them on they didn't look right. also the brake pads seem like they would be a little too large for the SI calipers. also when you return the calipers, you get less money (i don't know if it had to do with the calipers themselves or the combination of the different brackets?)

either way, if you are going to do this, i wanted new (re-manufactured) calipers anyways.

How much did those re-man calipers cost? Can you return your Si's as a core?

I did a swap to Legend GS calipers, and returned my VTEC calipers as a core for no additional charge.

The bracket is the same between the Legend GS and VTEC calipers right?

This might be OT, but how close to the inside of the stock 15's do the VTEC calipers sit? With my legend calipers there's probably about 6mm clearance between the caliper and rim.

Yes, GS and VTEC caliper brackets are identical.

^well i dunno. i'm still going easy but i can def. say they are better than the old brakes (also i have no abs, i haven't fixed the problem either)

as far as the core charge goes.

basically mike told me Si calipers/brackets are worth a little less than vtec calipers/brakets.
so if you are upgrading to vtec calipers/brackets, then you won't get as much money back than if you were returning some old vtec calipers/brackets. and this policy is all thru his company and might be different for autozone/etc.

Hey looks good. . Thanks again for your order!

If you get the Front VTEC Calipers from us they have a core value of $85.00 and the S/Si calipers have a core value of $55.00. So you would have to pay the $85 core charge up front for each VTEC Caliper and then if you are returning S/Si calipers for your core return then you would get $55.00 back, instead of $85.00 since they are not worth as much to the manufacturer. If any of you need Legend GS or Prelude VTEC calipers we can hook you up.

Also, the Legend GS/Coupe calipers have a $60 core charge, so if you return Prelude S/Si calipers for them you only lose $5 on the core charge.

i have had comparison pics for a few weeks now. thanks to jay (ludehawk) i have a set of calipers from a Type-SH. From the calipers that I had, the part that holds the pad on the outside of the rotor is longer on the VTEC than the Si.
