if you are referring to the CV joints then you know they are toast when they start making a clicking noise whenever you make a turn.

usually if your axle is "bad", it's broken, haha, you'll notice that, trust me. Like yield says, worst case scenario if your CV joint is toast, it'll click on turns. Something to do whenever you're under your car is check your CV boots (the rubber boot "behind" your front brake rotors), pull back each flab of rubber and look for cracks or split areas. If any area is ruptured, grease is or soon will spray from the join. My joint was ok, but there was a barely noticeable crack on the crown of one of the flabs, and that resulted in the inside half of my wheel being nearly completely covered in joint grease.

well, see the other weekend when i went up a friends driveway i thought i was on a rollercoaster for a second from the "click-click-click-click-click-click-click"

anywho the axle clicks or it may sound like a "knock" when you turn. when it gets bad enough it may sound like this just starting and going foward. its a fairly simple process as i did it by myself on friday night in a few hours.

oh yeah, the most of the passenger underside of the car is covered in joint grease and i couldnt figure out why until i noticed the boot looking funny and the thing was just split in half. just get a new one its $60 from autozone plus you get to break tools
