Go ahead and laugh
Just so you know my car was bounced off of a tree a couple years back on the passenger side. BOTH my CV shafts need to be replaces, I replaced one rear bearing and now I need to replace the other, suspension is creaky as all hell, and the RUST! MY GOD THE RUST!!!
Here you can see how the headlight and bumper no longer sit right due to the wreck. Think I might try bending it back somehow...
Im afraid its cancer... you have 6 months to live.
And on the other side...
Notice the lack of the lil plastic mat... yeah that was recent. I think the heat melted the glue or something, oh well. Oh yeah and laugh because I drive an auto...
My mascot!!!
OH WELL!!! ITS A LUDE AND I STILL LOVE IT TO DEATH!

I think I'm going to use this thread as a blog of sorts. Ive decided to try and fix all the real problems on this car before I start worrying about performance and apperance. For every thing I fix, there will be pics and writeups!

hate to tell you this but chances are that rust is coming from the inside out. If you are already seeing bubbles it may be too late. If you have the means, take it to a body shop pronto!

Don't feel bad one bit, my lude looks way worse than that, try this on for size...no hood, dented fenders, no headlights, no front bumper! No Joke. Been like that for 2.5 years now but it's all gonna change real soon!!
i have a small rust spot on each rear fender.. well it's starting to turn into cancer. i really wanna fix it myself, but i'm not sure what i'm gonna get myself into
As I said before, if you can see the rust on the outside, it may be too late already. See, water gets inside the rear quarter panel and gets trapped by the little rubber lining around the outside of your wheel well, causing it to rust from the inside out. Meaning that you probably have more rust than what you can see now. Surface rust is quite easy to take care of, but due to the nature of our rust, the whole area has to be cut out and re-welded with a matching piece. This all equates to hours of labor and therefore high repair costs.

OK as I said, I'm just going to post whatever pics I take of what I'm doing at the time in this thread so here goes with the first li'l project... GETTING RID OF MY CEL. Its a code 12 so that means EGR. First on the agenda is checking out the EGR itself and seeing if its dirty or fudged up in any way.
1. Locate the EGR. THERE IT IS!!! You can see one of the two bolts that hold it in in this picture. They are a little difficult to get to but all you really gotta do is use an extension and just put a little angle to it
2. You'll want to remove the small vacuum line coming off the right side...
3. Then the plug coming off the left side (to make it easier you can take off the tubing coming from the valve cover above it)...
4. The bolts werent too hard for me to take off, just be careful not to round them off.
5. Check the electrical connector for grime or dirt or what have you and also check the plunger and port for carbon build-up and debris. Mine looks pretty clean so I guess its not the EGR itself giving me the code. I'll have to check my vacuum lines and the valve lift sensor in a few days... I went ahead and sprayed carb cleaner in the little ports in the bottom and electrical cleaner in the connectors anyway since I had it off...

I thought I remember someone saying it is a good idea to take that rubber off to prevent rust.
ok update on my egr, I took off this stuff today (didnt have my gf's camera so no real pics)
and kind of looked at it for what thats worth... I did notice that the vacuum hoses going into more slender, round peice ie: "valve assembly" (#3) had some kind of white powder in them... is this normal? and whassup with the little removable thingy on the top? Geez this stuff is confusing.
I read in another thread that there is some spring somewhere that may be broken? Im assuming its in the "valve assembly control" (#1) or whatever because i could tap it and it felt like there was a spring or something in there. problem is, i cant open up any of these peices to find out whats inside...
