Side roof strips

I've got a 92 Prelude S. Those skinny strips along the sides of the roof are peeling and rusting. I starting manually stripping off the remaining paint and clear coat, but there seems to a thin strip of black rubber sealant along the edges. Now I'm afraid to get the roof wet in case I've created a entry point for water. Also, the entire strip seems to be a little loose. Can it just be pulled up to repaint it? Is it possible that water could leak past this strip? Thanks.

Those strips are removable. They're only held on with some plastic clips. You have two options repaint or replace. As far as water the way you have it now nothing bad will happen. It just look really bad.

Umm, isn't there channels for water to escape under those strips anyways?

Well when I painted my car I took them off, sanded them down, and painted.
