Si vs. Vtec.....

Well guys, I'm picking up my '92 Si 5spd at 6:30 tonight. I can't wait. This car drives, looks, and sounds awesome. I like grabbing 3rd gear chirps.

Anyways, I'm just curious to how this car would fair to a vtec 4g or even a 5g for that matter in a race. Especially on the highway. Anyone have any experiences they'd like to share?

You'll lose to any vtec on the highway but off the line youll be able to beat most 5th gens, but none of the 4th gen vtecs. Whenever i go to the track the 5th gens are always behind me (15.5).

Thanks bro'. That's what I thought. What would it take to beat a 4g vtec on the highway?

i went from a SI to VTEC...the si was faster off the line but the VTEC would take it after that...good luck with your car though

well, its gonna cost over $500 reguardless. the easy answer is nitrous. but if u wanna go N/A then: cams/i/h/e/pullies/AFC/port and polish. that should do the trick to hang with a stock VTEC... hehe... sucks doesnt it

later,
tim

How about a VTEC swap!!
No seriously, it would take a fair amount I think as VTECs have around a half second on us in the 1/4 mile...bastards! MOre than a coffee can exhaust for sure.

Man, that does suck. All the things you listed is over a grand (unless I talk to some friends ), but still that sucks. I have to make car payments to my dad, I'm not gonna have that kind of grip for a while. Oh well, i guess I'll just stick to smoking them 0-60.

Also, has anyone raced any V8's in their h23's?

search the racing forums. I got nailed by a Camaro (SS of course, just for the fun of it) and even a Cadillac STS. Had it off the line but it caught up around 80mph.

Jus keep the pressure a lil lower on the front tires and get as much of a lead as you possibly can.

the chirping 3rd is a sign of bad tires not the awsome power of the engine.

Thats not always true. I have brand new pirelli P7000 supersports (215/35ZR18) and I chirp third and sometimes forth. So it can't be bad tires, just a strong engine making the tires lose grip, right?

yea.. i think what me and brendon meant was that usually it is a result of your tires loosing their stickiness or never having stickiness at all.

It could be your engine though, but if after driving on the same tires for some time all of a sudden you are chirping third and you didnt nothing to improve your engines power... then you got bad tires.

how can you say h23's are better off the line when a stock h23 will run a 2.3 60ft at best and a h22 can run 2.2's and ive even seen some 2.1s from basic bolt on preludes....

OK, let them (me) have their fantasy alright!!
They're just talking about having the torque come a little earlier than you - it may be true but as you point out, it doesn't help much. Let us have our one moment of superiority!
