I thought you said you swapped the TPS for a working one, that's why I asked if you had adjusted it...

Anyways, they are screwed on at the factory and the heads ground off. You can cut a slot in the ground down screws and undo them. With time, the TPS sensors tend to develop spots where the voltage is out of specs and you see issues with a high idle, running rich, backfiring, poor performance, etc. You can find a new replacement TPS on ebay, I think its Blox that makes em.

What happens when you disconnect the IACV? Does it idle normal?

what i did was switch the tb... but anyways, im good performance wise now... i just have that damn idle surge... i took a peice of the cardboard from a cereal box and made a gasket for the iacv and it didnt change the idle. (ive already modded the iacv like a year ago because i had surge before and thats what fixed it)

ive searched alot but could the tps be a culprit? the car that i pulled the other tb from had surge too but his was worse...

The cardboard mod is for the FITV (Fast Idle Thermo Valve). The IACV is on the intake manifold.

If the car you pulled the TB from had a surge problem, its most likely the TPS. Get some voltage readings out of it then you'll know for sure

I believe there is a procedure in the Helms that involves hooking it up to a power source and listening for the mechanism inside to click.

But really, check the TPS I had the SAME issues as you and it was the TPS. I drove around with the IACV disconnected for nearly 2 years because I didn't know the TPS was the culprit. With the IACV plugged in, it would idle at 2k sometimes or surge other times. I was able to replicate that problem when I did my H22 swap and put on the H23 TB with a bad TPS

Have you tried checking you distributor rotor? I had the same problem with my car, it would have lag during acceleration and wouldn't keep a steady speed when it was warm. Ended up being that my rotor was chipped to hell and was completely destroyed, replaced it and haven't had any problems since.

Also for the idle surge make sure that your throttle cable isn't too tight, if it is it will cause the throttle plate not to close fully and causes idle surges.
