si rotors vs. vtec rotors

I have spent about a hour reading all the search info, couldn't find anything. on my question.

I just bought some brembo rotors from private party and the guy said he had a si. Well I went to install them and the rotors look different.

the rotors that are stock on my car look like they are not only held on by the two phillips, but also it looks like they are held on by the axle nut, and the rotors I bought have a big hole in the middle that actually slides over the axle hub.

my question is this are they possibly the vtec rotors, are they different from the si rotors, or does my si rotors slide off that hub also and from all the wearthering and rust is just looks like they are pressed on.

If anyone can help me with this I would apprecitate it.

No the rotors aren't held on by the axle nut. It must be the rust and stuff making them look like they are part of the hub. Check on www.ntpog.org there's a write up on rotor replacement.

The only difference between the Si and VTEC rotors is that the diameter is different, VTEC are bigger. But they mount the same way and are interchangeable if you have the calipers to match.

Yes, Forbidden is right, they will slide off once those phillips screws are removed. Some people say their rotors came right off once they removed the screws, but mine didn't come off so easy. I had to be very creative with a rubber mallet to get mine off.

I used the write-up on NTPOG to help with my install. (Thanks again Charlie and Todd!)

One piece of advice, definitely get the impact screwdriver with a number three bit because you will not be able to remove them with just a screwdriver, there are years of rust on those puppies and if you strip those you will have to get them drilled out.

The install was pretty straight forward if you have the right tools.

Yes I have the impact driver and actually did get them off today thanks for the replies.

Another question however is, I did find out that they are the vtec rotors, and I have a si. I would like to keep them seeing how they are brembo drilled and slotted.

So all I have to do is get the vtec calipers right? I have heard about the legend calipers, are they better than the vtec ones.

The only difference in the calipers is the length of the mounting arms is that correct? or are they bigger also, it would make sense to me if they were bigger.

Is it worth the effort to go buy the vtec calipers money vs. performance wise or would my money be better spent with brembo or some after market?

The VTEC caliper is also bigger than the Si caliper, so I'm assuming that the VTEC brake pads would be larger than the Si pads....

Yeah you need VTEC caliper if you want to keep those rotors. Legend caliper can do too, they are 2 pistons vs the VTEC calipers that are 1 piston. I can't tell you if they are worth it but I doubt they can be worst than the Si brakes. For the brake pads I don't know at all but I'm pretty sure someone will be able to help you out with this.

What would you guys recommend, the vtec or the legends.
Since the legends are 2 piston, does that mean they perform better? I know that is usually the case, but I never thought the legend was half the performance of a vtec prelude.

Most of the info is a bit misguided until my posting which corrects most of the misinformation... I think it will answer most of your questions.. I'm sure I've also posted several times about this on at the TPC site and here as well. Do a quick search in both of these forums and you should find everything you need to know....

I found on the search that you should also with whatever calipers you go with, that you will also need the brake master cylinders, why is this so, or is it opinion? performance facts anyone?
